Nagasaki is the capital and the largest city of Nagasaki Prefecture on the island of Kyushu in Japan.
1889 Municipal system enforced. In August 1945, at the end of the Pacific War, most of the city was destroyed by an atomic bomb, but it was restored afterwards.
The climate is mild. Fisheries and shipbuilding industries are thriving. The prefecture flower is Unzen azalea. The prefectural trees are camellia and cypress. The prefectural bird is a mandarin duck. The prefectural beast is Kyushu deer.
