There are two Tokyo Metropolitan Government buildings in the Nishi-Shinjuku sub-central business district. While the main government complex is symmetrical, this building on the south side features an asymmetrical design. It primarily serves as office space for the day-to-day administrative operations of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. Working in conjunction with the Main Government Building, it houses various departments of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government—including the Metropolitan Housing Management Department, the Guidance and Management Division, and the Housing Development Division—and accommodates about 40,000 employees.
