IT terms have been converted into kanji.
The act of saving copies of computer data and programs on another hard disk or other storage device in preparation for unforeseen circumstances such as damage, theft, or loss. It can also refer to the copied data or programs themselves.
There is no kanji representation for “backup” itself. This is because the meaning changes depending on the situation and context. This kanji is merely a coined term.
In addition to the above, the following meanings of “backup” can be cited:
- (In sports) Covering other players’ defense from behind.
- Providing support and assistance to people or groups from behind. Also, the person or thing providing such support.
- A backup device for machinery that can be used as a substitute in the event of a malfunction or accident in the main device.
However, this kanji does not have the meanings listed above.
Explanation of this work
The top row is in hiragana, the middle row is in kanji, and the bottom row is in katakana.
The hiragana and katakana are phonetic translations of “backup,” not the kanji in the middle row. The kanji in the middle row is read as “fukkyu yo joho kiroku.”
