An extremely rare surname with only about 10 people bearing it nationwide. The origin of the surname written with different kanji characters, “太巻 (Uzumaki)”, is said to be Ayagawa Town in Kagawa Prefecture. Similarly, the surname written with different kanji characters, “宇津巻 (Uzumaki)”, is said to have originated from the small district of Uzumaki in Sakamoto, Sakurae Town, Gotsu City, Shimane Prefecture. The origin is said to come from water currents forming whirlpools, and it is believed that surnames were born from place names around rivers and such.
