This island nation in the Caribbean—discovered by Columbus—(Hispaniola, one-third of which is Haiti) boasts a thriving tourism industry that capitalizes on its beautiful seas and abundant natural scenery. This is the kanji representation of “Dominica” in the Dominican Republic.
Similarly, to the east of that island, toward the South American continent, there is a small archipelago, and on the northern side of that archipelago lies a country called “Dominica,” but this is not its kanji representation.
Baseball is extremely popular there, and many players from the Dominican Republic are making their mark in Major League Baseball (MLB).
The reason the Dominican Republic is so dominant in baseball is a combination of a nationwide passion for the sport, the early development programs run by Major League Baseball (MLB) in the country, and a strong determination to “escape poverty and achieve wealth.”
