Kanroji is one of the Japanese family names.
It is an extremely rare surname, with only a few dozen people bearing it nationwide today.
Its origin is said to stem from the clan (Fujiwara clan) granted by Emperor Tenji to Nakatsukasa no Kamatari, also known as the Ryomon branch. Its status as a court noble family was that of a prestigious family, and its status as a noble family was that of a count’s household.

Those familiar with these kanji will recognize the final character is “temple” (寺), indicating a connection to Buddhist temples.
- There is a Jōdo-shū temple in Kinokawa City, Wakayama Prefecture. Fans visit this temple as a pilgrimage site, considering it sacred because its name matches that of Kanroji Mitsuri, a character from the popular manga “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” who belongs to the Demon Slayer Corps.
- There is also a Jōdo-shū temple in Kurihara City, Miyagi Prefecture.
- There is another temple with the same name in Amagasaki City, Hyōgo Prefecture.
